About this event

Google’s Firebase https://firebase.google.com/ is a complete Backend-as-a-Service platform with a host of tools and services to make you more productive as a developer. It comes with all the performance, scalability and security from Google’s cloud platform but also have very developer friendly tools and documentation to allow you to build and test your ideas fast – and scale them to robust solutions in production. The focus will be on mobile application development with Android, but there are Firebase integrations for a broad range of platforms, including iOS, web, Unity (VR/AR) and embedded devices (IoT).

16:00 - 16:30: Arrival and Networking
16:30 - 18:00: Tech talk and demos/live coding with focus on technologies in Firebase by Kasper Løvborg Jensen. He will give overview of the core platform tools and APIs and how you can use Firebase to supercharge your mobile applications. Examples will mainly be made in Android/Java but also cover some backend and Google Cloud integration perspectives. You will learn how to build your own Meme generator/social network and a nifty map-based app to keep track of all the cool places you visit.
18:00 - 19:00+: GDG Open Space - ORBIT Lab will be open for hacking and exploring new technologies. You are encouraged to work through some of the Firebase code labs and get started with your own projects, but there will also beopportunities to try out some of our gear for Virtual Reality (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Android + Daydream) and Augmented Reality (Android + Tango). Or maybe get hacking on some Android Things IoT projects.

The tech talk and coding session will be in the large auditorium in the Shannon building (S[masked]) and depending on how many we are we will spread out there and in ORBIT Lab (Codd building) for the following hacking.

Bring your laptop and fellow developers!

ORBIT Lab and AU Engineering is hosting the event and Google is sponsoring snacks and drinks, so remember to sign up so we can get get supplies accordingly. Limited spots.
