Join us for our final event of the year! This event will be split into two parts, starting with a technical presentation and then moving to a local bar for a more informal catch-up and celebration of the year that has passed.
During the first part of this event, we will be joined remotely by Luke Sleeman, a principal consultant at Mantel Group, and the lead Android engineer at ANZ Plus. Luke will be presenting a session that he presented at both the GDG Melbourne DevFest and the GDG Auckland DevFest, which received extremely positive feedback. Following the presentation, we will have a Q&A with Luke and other ANZ Plus engineers around the goal of "Zero Technical Debt", and how this goal impacts their work day-to-day.
Here's what you can expect to hear about during the presentation:
The ANZ Plus app has one of the largest mobile teams in the southern hemisphere. As a team, they are responsible for the app behind Australia’s fastest-growing new digital bank. They also aim to have zero technical debt - a goal they will never reach!
Why have a goal you will never reach? And why should you set your sights on having no technical debt? Isn’t some level acceptable - or even desirable?
In this presentation, we will investigate the nature of tech debt. Luke Sleeman, our presenter, will make the case that the ideal amount of tech debt is “zero” and explore how we can balance this principle with the need to be incrementally improving and delivering rapidly.
End-of-year social catch-up:
During the second part of this event, we will move to a more informal location at a nearby bar. This is a chance to connect with local developers and catch up on what has been happening in the local tech scene over the past year.
