About this event

Welcome to the fourth iteration of our merged meetup (GDG + Angular Meetup)!

Per our new format, we will have two talks this month.

And, as usual, we'll have pizza and beverages served courtesy of TekSystems and will draw our monthly raffle.

Talk #1: Data Science – The Truth Behind the Allure and How to Get Started in the Field (Sadie St Lawrence)

If you’ve read through your twitter feed or scrolled through the news in the past year or two, you’ve probably seen a lot of buzz around Big Data, Data Science, Machine Learning, AI, and Cognitive Applications.

While the future of technology is exciting, Sadie will provide some real life context to what these terms mean. She will also go in depth regarding data science, what it is and how to get started in the field.

By the end of this talk, you should understand why data science is one of the hottest jobs, how it fits in with the larger Big Data and AI revolution, and what you can do to get started in this exciting field.

About Sadie: Sadie is the Executive Director of Women in Data, and works as an Analytics Engineer for VSP Global. Sadie holds an MS in Analytics from Villanova University and BA in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. Sadie is passionate about educating the public on data literacy and helping people find their desired career path.

Talk #2: The code behind Angular (Kevin Ruse)

Many of the improvements between AngularJS and Angular are made possible by additional Web specifications that were introduced after the release of AngularJS.

These improvements include: development and browser support of Web Components, the creation of TypeScript, the addition of new API’s such as Web Workers, Web Storage, HTML custom elements and the data-set API. This talk will explore new HTML and JavaScript features that helped develop the Angular framework into what it is today.

Kevin currently provides IT training to Fortune 500 companies throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The meetup takes place at:

VSP HQ5 -3249 Quality Dr Rancho Cordova, CA 95670

The meeting room is in the Northeastern corner of the building (the closest to Highway 50 - see satellite view below). Signs will be put on the door as well.
