The Hacktoberfest event, organized by the GDGoC UET Team, brought a dynamic introduction to open-source culture to the Institute of Data Science at UET. Muhammad Faizan Asim and Shahbaz were invited as keynote speakers to shed light on important aspects of the event's theme.
Faizan kicked off the session with an insightful talk on what GDG is all about. He explained GDG role in fostering tech communities, its global outreach, and how it empowers developers by providing them with a collaborative learning space. Faizan emphasized the importance of community-led initiatives like Hacktoberfest, which encourage students to actively engage with the tech ecosystem.
Shahbaz followed with a talk focused on open-source contributions, delving into the significance of contributing to global projects and the benefits it offers to both personal and professional growth. He highlighted that contributing to open source builds practical coding experience, hones problem-solving skills, and provides a platform for networking with seasoned developers. He also discussed the impact open-source software has on innovation and shared practical tips on starting with contributions.
