During our GitHub 101 session, we introduced participants to the fundamentals of Git version control and the core concepts that shape modern collaborative software development. We explored why version control matters, how Git manages snapshots and changes over time, and how local and remote repositories work together. The session walked through essential Git terminology and structure, including working directory, staging area, commits, branches, and the repository model, while also demonstrating key commands such as init, clone, add, commit, status, and log. Participants learned how to start a new project, configure their Git environment, create and switch between branches, review changes, resolve basic conflicts, and apply best practices for clean commit history. We also discussed .gitignore usage, fast-forward vs. merge commits, and basic recovery actions like undoing changes and reverting commits. Throughout the workshop, attendees practiced these commands hands-on and became comfortable navigating real Git workflows, laying a solid foundation for more advanced topics in the upcoming GitHub 102 session.
