The (Not So) Hidden Bias in AI

GDG Munich × Women in CS @ TUM

As future tech builders, engineers, and data scientists, we have a responsibility to understand the systems we create — including their blind spots.

Join us for a panel discussion and networking evening that dives into one of the most pressing (and often overlooked) challenges in modern tech: bias in AI systems.

Whether it’s gender bias, cultural bias, ethnic or racial bias, age bias, or bias against underrepresented groups, AI systems can unintentionally reflect — and even reinforce — real-world inequalities. This affects not only fairness and trust, but also the technical quality and reliability of the systems we build.

Our panel brings together experts from academia and applied research to explore:

  • What bias in AI actually looks like in practice

  • Where it comes from — and why it matters

  • Technical approaches to bias detection, mitigation, and explainability

  • How we, as future tech professionals, can build more inclusive and responsible AI

🧠 The goal: Inspire and inform tech students to critically engage with the systems they’ll one day be building.

🗓 When: July 2nd, 18:30

📍 Where: TUM Campus Garching, Hörsaal 2, Interims I (5620.01.102) - Located just outside the Informatics and Mathematics building — the large black cube-shaped hall.

💬 For whom: Open to all students and anyone curious about AI, ethics, fairness & responsibility in tech

🥤 Includes informal networking session after the panel

Let’s talk about the AI we want to create — and how to get there.
