Tech Winter Break, Hands-on Web Development workshop is aimed at introducing 2 nd and 3rd year college students to the core concepts of web development in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The program is designed to build technical skills through structured workshops, self-study, and hands-on practice. By the end of the program, participants will be able to create basic web pages.

1. HTML Basics
Key Concepts:
- HTML structure.
- Common elements: headings
Practical Activity:
- Develop a simple HTML page including the following elements.
- A heading and a paragraph.
- An image with alt text describing it.
- A list of items (ordered or unordered).
2. CSS Fundamentals
Key Concepts:
- Introduction to CSS and its role in styling web pages.
- Selectors and properties: text formatting, colors, margins, padding.
- Responsive design and the use of media queries.
Practical Activity:
- Apply what has been covered by: styling the earlier-created HTML page by change the text color and its font
size. Add a background color or an image to the page.
- Creating a responsive layout for mobile screens.
3. Basic JavaScript
Key Concepts:
- The role of JavaScript in web development.
- Introduction to JavaScript syntax, variables, and simple operations.
Practical Activity:
- Add interactivity to the web page by:
- Creating a button that changes text when clicked.
- Displaying a simple alert message when an action is performed.
Activities and Outcomes
Live Coding Demonstration:
- The guide will create a basic website from scratch, integrating HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Participants will follow along to replicate the steps.
Encouraging Personal Projects:
1. Team Formation: Teams of 3-5 participants (with allies) will work on UN SDGs-focused projects.
2. Project Goal: Develop innovative, scalable solutions aligned with the UN SDGs for the Google Solutions
Challenge 2025.
3. Workshop Highlights: Hands-on training in Identifying SDG-related problems, Designing impactful solutions,
Pitching and submission processes.
4. Mentorship: Teams will receive guidance and monitoring to align projects with Google’s criteria.
5. Submission: Only shortlisted projects from the workshop will qualify for the ₹8,00,000 prize pool.
6. Takeaway: Gain skills in innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving, with a chance to showcase on a global
stage.
Expected Outcomes
1. Technical Skill: Participants will get hands-on building experience of a basic, functional website.
2. Confidence: Students will be motivated and empowered to explore more complex concepts of web development
and begin working on personal projects.
3. Building Community: Students will be urged to form GDG On Campus groups and share their knowledge through
workshops, and create a collaborative learning space.
