Organized by: GDG AI Team

The AI Essentials Workshop: Chatbot & Computer Vision is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI), focusing on two important fields: Chatbots and Computer Vision. The workshop will cover both theoretical concepts and hands-on sessions, allowing participants to build real-world applications and gain practical knowledge.

This workshop is organized by the GDG AI Team at Jansons Institute of Technology and will be led by Koushik Raja R with Sutiksn A as the co-lead. The primary goal of this event is to enable participants to explore the world of AI, specifically Chatbots powered by the Gemini API and Computer Vision using OpenCV and YOLO (You Only Look Once).

Workshop Overview

AI is transforming industries across the globe, and one of the most exciting areas of development is in the field of intelligent systems that can interact with users and understand visual data. From chatbots that engage in human-like conversations to computer vision systems that detect objects in real-time, AI is revolutionizing how we interact with technology.

In this workshop, you will be introduced to the core concepts behind these technologies and get hands-on experience building a Chatbot using the Gemini API and implementing real-time object detection with OpenCV and YOLO. This practical exposure will help participants understand how AI can be applied in real-world scenarios, from customer service chatbots to security systems using image recognition.

Agenda for the Day

10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Workshop Introduction & Welcome

The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the agenda, covering the goals of the event and a short discussion on the significance of AI in today's technological landscape. The session will provide an overview of what AI is, its various branches, and how it is used in everyday applications.

The introductory section will also include:

- A brief explanation of Chatbots and Computer Vision, two pivotal fields in AI.

- A quick review of the workshop's objectives and expected outcomes.

- An introduction to the tools and platforms participants will use during the day.

Morning Session: Build a Chatbot Using Gemini API (10:30 AM – 12:45 PM)

Chatbots are one of the most widely used AI applications today, with industries ranging from e-commerce to customer service leveraging them for automation. In this session, you will learn about the key concepts behind chatbots and how they function.

The session will cover the following:

- Introduction to Chatbots: Understand the role of chatbots in AI and how they can interact with users in a natural way.

- Overview of Gemini API: The Gemini API is a powerful tool that simplifies chatbot development by providing a range of pre-trained AI models to handle tasks like conversation, understanding intent, and providing responses.

- Hands-on Session:

- Setting Up the Environment: Learn how to set up the necessary tools and software to begin building your chatbot.

- Creating Your First Chatbot: Step-by-step instructions on creating a basic chatbot that can answer questions and handle simple interactions.

- Enhancing the Chatbot: Adding features like natural language processing (NLP) to make your chatbot smarter and more interactive.

A lunch break will provide a well-deserved pause and an opportunity to network with fellow participants, share ideas, and relax before diving into the afternoon session.

Afternoon Session: Introduction to Computer Vision with OpenCV and YOLO (1:30 PM – 3:30 PM)

The afternoon session will focus on Computer Vision, a field of AI that trains machines to interpret and understand the visual world. Computer vision has applications in various domains, including security, healthcare, and autonomous vehicles.

This session will introduce participants to OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision Library), a popular tool used for building real-time image processing applications, and YOLO (You Only Look Once), a real-time object detection system.

Key topics covered in this session:

- Basics of Computer Vision: Learn the fundamentals of computer vision, how it works, and how AI can be used to process and understand images and videos.

- Introduction to OpenCV: OpenCV is a powerful open-source library that helps in image processing tasks like face detection, motion tracking, and image transformation.

- Hands-on Session:

- Image Processing Techniques: Learn about basic techniques such as image filtering, edge detection, and transformations.

- Real-time Object Detection Using YOLO: Understand how YOLO works and implement a real-time object detection system. YOLO can recognize multiple objects in images and videos with impressive speed and accuracy.

Participants will be guided through building a real-time object detection system using YOLO and OpenCV, enabling them to recognize and track objects in video streams or images.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: Project Demo & Closing Remarks

In the final session, participants will have the opportunity to showcase the projects they have built during the workshop. This is a great chance for everyone to demonstrate their learning and for the organizers to provide feedback on the projects.

The closing remarks will cover:

- A recap of what was learned during the workshop.

- An open discussion for any questions or additional clarifications.

- Feedback Collection: Participants will be asked to share their experiences, thoughts, and suggestions for future events.

- Group Photo: To commemorate the day and the efforts put into building AI-powered applications, a group photo will be taken.

Requirements and Pre-requisites

To ensure that participants get the most out of the workshop, the following are required:

- Laptop: Each participant must bring their own laptop with Python installed, as hands-on coding will be an essential part of the event.

- Basic Knowledge of Python: Since both the Gemini API and OpenCV require familiarity with Python, participants are expected to have a basic understanding of the language before attending.

Why Attend?

This workshop offers an excellent opportunity for participants to:

1. Build Practical AI Skills: By the end of the workshop, participants will have hands-on experience building a chatbot and a real-time object detection system, skills that are in high demand in the tech industry.

2. Learn from Experts: Gain insights from experienced AI professionals and educators who will guide you through every step of the process.

3. Network with Like-minded Individuals: Connect with other students, developers, and AI enthusiasts to discuss ideas, share knowledge, and form collaborations for future projects.
