About this event

The CSUEB Google Developer Group (GDG), a student-led organization advised by Professor Lynne Grewe, is developing and hosting a Machine Learning Workshop at the GMIS CAHS conference (https://cahsi.utep.edu/gmis-summit/; https://www.gmis.org/page/2025homepage; https://cahsi.utep.edu/). This interactive workshop will showcase the potential of Gemini, Google’s advanced AI platform, in a hands-on “invention maker” format. Participants will explore Gemini’s capabilities, including the option for fine-tuning, as they design innovative applications. By directly engaging with Gemini, students will gain valuable exposure to a premier product at the forefront of AI and machine learning.

The workshop will bring together approximately 80 students from across the United States and Puerto Rico, including many Hispanic, minority, and first-generation students affiliated with the Computing Alliance for Hispanic Serving Institutions (CAHSI). Providing access to a cutting-edge platform such as Gemini is especially significant for these students, as it enables them to engage with state-of-the-art tools that might otherwise be inaccessible and helps foster equitable participation in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

Held in San Diego, this event also serves as an outreach initiative for the CSUEB GDG. The club will send three members to lead the workshop, building connections across institutions while empowering participants with skills and inspiration that can influence their academic and career pathways. Through this collaborative, student-driven effort, the workshop not only strengthens technical proficiency but also contributes to broadening participation in computing and innovation.

REGISTRATION : Students must be registered through the GMIS CAHSI Portal
