Abstract:

Serverless computing is a cloud computing code execution model where the cloud manages the starting/stopping of the code container on demand, as necessary to serve requests. With Google Cloud Functions, we can support FaaS (Functions as a Service) where the computational unit is at the granularity of a function, and the execution is controlled by events that can be generated from anywhere (including Firebase).

In this talk Bret McGowen will reprise his Cloud Next 17 talk on "Serverless Computing Options with Google Cloud (https://cloudnext.withgoogle.com/schedule#target=serverless-computing-options-with-google-cloud-platform-1beab0c1-740e-4ee5-82f7-2fc020cdb295)" with a deeper dive into Google Cloud Functions (https://cloud.google.com/functions/docs/) and demonstrations of how this can be integrated into other technologies including Firebase.

Google Cloud Endpoints is a distributed API gateway that just hit the General Availability milestone in February 2017 (https://cloudplatform.googleblog.com/2017/02/Google-Cloud-Endpoints-now-GA-a-fast-scalable-API-gateway.html) and is ideal for developers building applications and microservices on Google Cloud. It also integrates with Firebase and Auth0 allowing you to better track who uses your mobile & web apps.
