Biography: As Chair of the Governmental Operations Committee where he has sought to root out patronage, de-privatize government, eliminate billions in waste, expand elections, and to use technology to improve access to government. He has become a leading advocate for education, affordable housing, public health, sustainable development and transportation improvements and safety. His office is open and transparent, with constituents invited to decide on how to spend one million dollars on local projects in the district as well as to join him in a conversation on the First Friday of each month, or he will go to them if they can gather ten neighbors for “Ben In Your Building.”

7:00 pm FEATURE TALK #1: "Introduction to the Mobile Vision API" (Speaker: Yulong Liu, Google)

Abstract:

This is a brief introduction to the Mobile Vision APIs from Google. Yulong will introduce the various APIs and describe why they were built, how they can be used in your applications, and what the performance impact is. The talk will conclude with live demos of the Mobile Vision API capabiliies.

7:45 pm FEATURE TALK #2: (Speaker: Claus Matzinger, Crate.io)

Abstract:

Predictive analytics, Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 - everybody has heard them at least once, but what do real installations look like? How can containerized Microservices help deployment and increase productivity?

Claus from Crate.io will answer any and all of these questions and show real world examples with a stack based on Raspberry Pis, Grafana, Docker, and Rust.

Speaker Bio:

A software engineer by trade, Claus Matzinger (https://twitter.com/claus__m) runs field engineering at Crate.io (https://crate.io/), entertains several Raspberry Pis, and actively maintains Rust drivers for all sorts of sensors. He loves connecting with developers to talk about putting machine data to work in exciting IoT systems.
