Roya is a research scientist who is passionate about advancing artificial intelligence technologies. She is particularly interested in computer vision and pattern recognition and has developed machine learning solutions for various applications, including healthcare, assistive technology, and security.
Roya is also an advocate for women's rights. She is a Google Women's Techmaker Ambassador and a Google Developer Group organizer. She uses these platforms to encourage women to pursue careers in science and technology.
Madeleine Shang is a Sr. ML / Research Engineer in industry, published author / researcher (ICLR 2021, BPB) and seasoned open-source AI leader, with 6+ years of experience in ML R&D. Her areas of focus include generative AI (NLP) and Human & AI interactions (Reinforcement Learning). Her work in open-source Federated Learning was funded by Pytorch Grants and she was named 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics (2022). Maddie is highly interested in Diversity and Inclusion in tech and entrepreneurship; she founded and built Women Who Code - Data Science with 4k+ global professional members and currently consults with startups, companies and nonprofits (e.g. AnitaB.org) as a technical expert and D&I advisor. Prior to turning her focus on ML, she studied Mathematics at University of Waterloo, completed CFA Level III, and worked in tech as a VC, Founder and Blockchain educator/researcher. In her spare time Maddie enjoys flying airplanes and lives/works out her truck for adventures in the wilderness.
