About this event

This week, we are celebrating the theme 'Redefine Possible' with Google Developer Group of Noco, Women Techmakers of Noco and Aims Community College! Hosted by Jennifer Bailey, Full-Time Computer Science Professor @ Aims.

Join us this Wednesday, March 26th for a fun evening and some great presentations!

We will start with quick introductions and networking, and then prepare for two wonderful presentations!

Talk 1 by José Marrima: Demystifying Git: How It Really Works Under the Hood (Approx. 40 minutes)

In this session, I'll introduce Git internals—how Git saves objects and operates behind the scenes. This talk will help you understand what Git does under the hood and how to confidently navigate issues when things go wrong. We'll also break down key concepts like the three types of Git resets in a way that's easy to grasp.

Talk 2 by Aishwarya Kamal: Dive into the Core of the Android Operating System (Approx. 20 minutes or less)

In this session, I'll introduce the core structure of the Android operating system. Starting with the Linux-based kernel and its Android-specific modifications, I’ll cover essential processes like Init and Zygote and explain how Android manages memory and power efficiently. We’ll also look at Android’s security model, how apps communicate securely via Binder IPC, and the role of the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) in hardware compatibility. This talk provides an overview of Android internals, setting a foundation for anyone looking to explore or develop for the platform.

Aishwarya Kamal is a student at Colorado State University, specializing in Android development. She has worked on significant projects, including a navigation app for BMW and the OneFootball app, which has over 50 million downloads. She also contributed to the development of a glasses-type Android wearable device in Japan. Outside of tech, she enjoys calligraphy and sharing her knowledge in mobile development and software engineering.

José Marrima, originally from Mozambique, is a student at Colorado State University and an Android software engineer. He enjoys exploring the complexities of mobile development and has lived in multiple countries, enriching his perspective on software engineering. He also shares insights on software development through his blog at josemarrima.com. Outside of work, he's passionate about Formula 1, boxing, and football.

We'll have schwag giveaways, an opportunity to network and make new friends, and some very informative talks! Together we will 'Redefine Possible' for International Women's Day 2025! All are invited as we are an inclusive community!
