About this event

Welcome to Melbourne Android's November Meetup.

Topics for the night will be:
- Kotlin vs Java Lighting talk (Suesi Tran)
- Smart Actions for Google Home Lighting talk (Carl Hickton @CarlHickton)
- Integrating your IOT devices using Home Assistant with Google Assistant (Sebastian Doan and Nathan Borysiewicz @sebastian_doan)

Sebastian and Nathan promise some amazing demos! They have provided the following talk description:

The Google Assistant currently supports integration with thousand of Smart Home Devices. That's great from an end consumer perspective, however what if you wanted to integrate your own non-supported devices? And what if the existing integrations don't meet your needs or use-cases? Using Home Assistant, an open source platform, you can integrate, monitor, control and automate all of your IP connected devices. It can also be integrated to the Google Assistant and act as a bridge to all of your devices.

Sebastian Doan and Nathan Borysiewicz, will walk through the high level capabilities of Home assistant and demonstrate how it can integrate with Google for voice based control, casting cameras and TTS notifications. We'll also provide a demonstration of numerous connected devices (lights, vacuum, presence sensors and heating/cooling) and give an overview how we use Home assistant to manage our smart homes.
