About this event

Everywhere you look, AR and VR have been gaining ground. But what does it mean to you as a developer, or a business? What are some real-world things you can do - more than ride a VR roller coaster for fun?

Come join us at Alpha Loft in Manchester on Tuesday, October 25th at 6:00 pm. Our guest speaker will be Steve Doroff. Steve’s startup, CDBG, works with organizations developing Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) solutions improving their current processes in the following areas: customer delivery, operations, product development and training.

6:00: Pizza and networking. Thanks to sponsor, TEKSystems
6:30  Event start: What is AR/VR?

 6:45  Project Tango

 7:00  Project Daydream
7:15   Intro to Unity with Daydream

 7:30  MIT VR Hackathon

 7:45  Q & A

 8:00  Done

In this meeting, Steve plans to show the work they are doing and where he has seen traction and then engage with meeting participants regarding what they are doing and how the technology might apply. The goal of this talk is about building the community and how you potentially could benefit from this technology as well.

Steve finds a big part of what he does is helping others to breakthrough their current notions of AR and VR and to gain a conceptual understanding of where the value is based on their own context. How do you do this? Through brief demonstrations of how the technology can be used and a lot of discussion.

Steve co-founded a software company that was later acquired by Oracle and in addition has worked with various companies providing technology services including: Gartner, KPMG, PriceWaterhouse Consulting and Andersen Consulting. Steve has an MBA from Duke University and a BS in Economics and Computer Science from Trinity College.

We’ll talk about the latest announcements from Google in the VR space, such as Google Daydream, and what it means for both developers, businesses and consumers in upcoming phone and headset hardware.

We’ll be giving away a Google Cardboard headset or two as well as a few sets of lenses for people wanting to build their own VR headset off other plans they may have found. So now is a great time to start thinking about how you’ll augment the world around you!

And, last but not least, we’ll talk about our most recent efforts and experiences at the MIT Media Lab AR/VR hackathon, the world’s largest to date where over 300 participates in 70 teams competed for over $20,000 in cash and product prizes…...interested in getting a peek at what other people like you have been doing in this fast emerging space?
