About this event

Get ready to build your first Android app!  The Android for Beginners study jam series is starting on March 21st at 6 pm at UNH Manchester, room P101.  This study group is best suited for two audiences:

1) those new to programming

2) those with programming experience who have never programmed for Android.

This year's Study Jam is custom-designed by Udacity and Google for those of you who are looking to break into mobile app development as a beginner, and does not assume any prior development experience.

First, RSVP to the Meetup. Second, click this link to signup for the Udacity course (Android Development for Beginners):

The online course will be facilitated by several experienced developers including, Sarfraz Ahmad, Bill Schongar, Daniel Pinard, and others. We'll get you started with the online course at the first event along with additional live material to help you succeed and have fun.

The Study Jam Android course will run over 5 weeks with 3 live sessions on Monday nights (3/21, 3/28, and 4/4), a one-week break to work on your own (with online facilitator help), and then a final live session on Monday, 4/18.

We'd love to see many of you out there, so come hang out with your local development community and add some new skills to the repertoire.

Pizza will be served at 6 pm.

What Students Get:
Personal tutoring on the course material. Community setting to support course learning. Swag pack. Food. Google-offered Study Jams completion certificate. Discount on the Android Nanodegree upon course completion. Opportunity to join Google Launchpad with completed app, pending app quality

Course Prerequisites and Requirements

"If you are new to programming and don’t know where to start, then this is the course for you!

We will use Android Studio to build our apps, so you should have access to a computer that can run Android Studio in order to follow along (see Android Studio’s System Requirements for details). Don’t worry, you do not need to install Android Studio in advance – we will provide detailed installation instructions as part of the course.

Access to an Android device is helpful, but not at all required.

Now, in case you have some programming experience, parts of this course may be too slow for you — you should feel free to skip those sections.

Finally, the most important prerequisite is a willingness to learn new things, and belief that you can do this!

See the Technology Requirements for using Udacity."

Please bring

A computer that satisfies these system requirements

A computer charger

Android device (optional, you can use an Android emulator if needed)

USB cable to connect the device to their computer

Headphones (to watch videos in the classroom)

You DO NOT need to install anything in advance! =)
