About this event

Welcome to the second edition of Android Worldwide! We're an international collective of developer communities who like to put on a recurring special event for Android Devs, and related engineering specialties. Last time, we tried having one event for everyone...and that was great, but not everyone could join because some were still working, or for others it was the middle of the night. This time around, we really want to be more accommodating. So, instead of one event, there are three. Each one caters to different time zones, and you are free to attend whichever one you likeā€”no restrictions.

Each event is lead by a different team of community organizers, and each of them carefully picked speakers from their own regions. Paired with fantastic content (šŸ¤ž), we want to emphasize the importance of having a tighter social fabric. For that we've selected a special video conferencing software made by Remo.co, and set aside plenty of time for friendly conversation between you and your fellow community members from around the globe.

You are welcome to register here, where we're emphasizing the event that's most convenient for our community. But, to get access to the call, and to be aware of the other two events as well, please register on Eventbriteā€”don't worry, it's free.

Presentation Details

Conquering Common Conundrums with ConstraintLayout by Huyen Tue Dao: ConstraintLayout was announced at Google I/O 2016, but even after 4 years of improvements, additions, and fixes, it can still be a little daunting to get started. Even if you've been using it for a while, the sheer volume of functionality and possibility can be overwhelming. You might have a nagging feeling that you are not using ConstraintLayout in "the right away" or at least not to its full potential.

In this session, we're going to look at common layout problems and questions, and then start solving them with ConstraintLayout, exploring why and when we might choose some features and functionality over others and building a basic set of tools and techniques. Hopefully, after this talk, ConstraintLayout will feel less overwhelming with a fundamental toolset upon which you can build as you conquer increasingly complex layouts.

Halving the Crash Rate of the Airbnb App by Andreas Rossbacher: How we tracked down a native crash in the Skia graphics subsystem to halve the crash rate of the Airbnb Android app.
