About this event

OpenHub and Newburgh Free Library are inviting you for this introductory class on Python. We held one introductory class 3/1/2022, which continued with the Python Study Jam - woohoo, glory to the brave souls - come to shine, showcase your projects, share our excitement about Python!
This class 6/7/2022 we will use the same approach, adding insights gained through the Study Jam experience.
In this one-hour introductory session, we will start your journey into the world of programming. Python is an easy-to-learn programming language with an unlimited scope of uses in the real world. This is practical programming for total beginners!
In this introductory powerful workshop, you'll learn how to use Python to have fun writing programs that do in minutes what would take you hours to do by hand. No prior programming experience is required. You only need to know the rudiments of using your computer.
Python has a lot to offer, and many free libraries to use.

10:00 PM	Intro to Python - hands on Workshop	This workshop will focus on doing calculations and creating simple games. We will introduce you to an excellent resource to start learning the language and getting practice solving problems. We will share the best resources you can use going forward. Upon completing this facilitated workshop you will be able to start learning the language at your own pace. During your self-study, you will learn the basics of programming, while creating Python programs that effortlessly perform useful and impressive feats of automation such as: - Search for text in a file or across multiple files, - Create, update, move, and rename files and folders, - Search the Web and download online content, - Update and format data in Excel spreadsheets of any size, - Split, merge, watermark, and encrypt PDFs, - Send reminder emails and text notifications, - Fill out online forms, - and much more.

Even if you've never written a line of code, you learn how to make your computer do the grunt work.
