Amjid Khazir of Media Cultured, a leading social enterprise focused on challenging racism & extremism through dynamic, connective workshops all over the world, will be hosting a one-hour session for the GDG UK&I. There will be opportunities for participants to share their experiences, as well as a 15 minute Q&A after his 40 minute interactive workshop. This event will focus on a series of opportunities & challenges within the tech sector for addressing and improving the current state of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI). Questions posed will include, but not be limited to: What role can tech play in addressing key challenges in regards to Equality and Extremism, be they within the sector itself or the communities the industry serves and relies upon? How do we improve representation in tech and improve racial equality, cultural awareness and inclusion? How is/has tech been used to radicalise and divide? Fingers are often pointed at tech and social media to "do more" and 'de-platform' hate, but what practical real-world steps can tech actually commit to in order to counter hate and promote unity beyond content censorship and/or losing users to the dark web or platforms without any sort of community standards? Beyond falling foul of the "community standards was not breached" auto-reply, how can tech enable a peer-lead rejection of racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism?
