First meeting for 2016! https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/gdg-dublin-january-2016-tickets-20753702884 We will have 2 tracks (running at the same time): 1 - Getting to Grips with RxJava on Android (Brendan Fahy) This is a practical session, bring your laptop RxJava is a powerful tool for transforming the way we write Java code. The best way to get to grips with it is through practical, hands-on experience. In this session we'll be looking at a sample Android app which uses themoviedb.org API (which some of you may remember from the DevFest hackathon), and applying RxJava to simplify our network calls, our threading, and even our user interaction code. While this will be aimed at Android, most of the content will be valid and applicable for regular Java too. 2 - Talks Taking control: Input devices at Android ecosystem (Gleb Lebedev) Material Design for web pages (Raphael Savina)
Make sure to get your EventBrite ticket.
There are various devices that can be used with Android to get an input from users. The most common way is touch. Let's explore the world beyond screen gestures: remote controls, gamepads, MIDI, USB host interface and network.
The talk will cover the following topics:
- A shot observation of various wireless and wired input devices
- MIDI API in Android 6.0
- USB API and USB-to-serial adapters
- ESP8266 microcontroller and UDP messaging
Material Design Lite lets you add a Material Design look and feel to your websites. It doesn’t rely on any JavaScript frameworks and aims to optimize cross-device use, gracefully degrade in older browsers, and offer an experience that is immediately accessible.
