Home Assistant is a powerful tool for building privacy-focused and offline-first Smart Homes. Written in Python and Polymer, Home Assistant is open source and free to use for any kind of facility automation and management, whether that be a dorm, house, office, makerspace or hotel. We will explore what Home Assistant is, its main features and how to install it in your home. With a brief demonstration of how it works and the different kinds of devices and services, you can configure it to work with. Specifically, we will talk about integrating Google Services and Google Home products with Home Assistant.

About our Speaker:
Cameron Steele is a multi-disciplined engineer, working at Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems and a Senior at The University Of Texas At Dallas studying Emerging Technologies @ ATEC. Cameron is also the president of The UTDesign Makerspace and supports engineering projects under IEEE's Forge program. In his free time (what little he has) Cameron enjoys 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Flying Drones, Tinkering with circuits and Projection Mapping.
