The Go programming language has skyrocketed in popularity since its introduction in 2012, jumping from #44 in the TIOBE Index in 2016 to #17 today. It is quickly becoming the lingua franca for cloud infrastructure with projects like Docker and Kubernetes being built upon it. We'll look into why Go is well-suited for cloud infrastructure, microservices, command-line utilities and even embedded systems, and dive into some of the design choices in the language that run counter to contemporary programming language practice.
