This year our theme celebrates all kinds of progress - big or small - and the strength we demonstrate when we don’t let fear hold us back from following our dreams.
So often we hold ourselves to impossibly high standards and feel disappointed when we can’t reach them - or worse, we don’t even try. When we let the idea of being perfect go, we allow ourselves the space and freedom to try new things, to make mistakes and to learn. We see that all of our experiences - the good, the bad, and the ugly - have made us who we are today. Instead of striving for perfection, we can strive for growth and discovery. Instead of being fixated on the destination, we enjoy the journey, wherever it takes us.
Our paths aren’t always linear, and we may come across seemingly impossible challenges, but when we celebrate #ProgressNotPerfection, we are celebrating all we’ve accomplished - big and small - and our inner strength and resilience that allowed us to get here.

Rawan Yaghi has a background in English Language and Education and used to teach in high schools till 2016. She has been a social activist since 1998. She believed that education helps her mission as a change agent with youth and women. She is a co-author of Women Teaching Women English published by University of Oregon and a co-author of International Perspectives on Teaching and Learning with GIS in Secondary Schools. She has also designed books for middle school students that aim at citizenship using thematic approach for Spelling Bee. She is a co- author in Teaching Women Enhanced English Book – a PAS Program where she focuses on the role of women in preventing violent extremism and freedom of expression among other topics. She is an activist in women empowerment through education, protection, entrepreneurship, as well as political participation. She has established USPEaK as a non-profit, non-governmental organization in Baalbeck, Lebanon in 2009 and worked on many projects to build citizenship and democracy among youth and women. Rawan is a trainer on conflict management, social cohesion, women empowerment and inclusive citizenship among others. She is an alumna of US Embassy exchange programs of Hubert Humphrey Fellowship on Public Policy Analysis from University of Minnesota and International Visitor Leadership Program. Rawan is interested in gender equality, policy making, preventing human trafficking, democracy, campaigning and critical thinking. She has focused on youth, women and marginalized groups in political inclusion in addition to her leading role in municipal and parliamentary elections in her region.
