Challenges of deep learning in limited data domains / Julia El Zini | Although deep networks have demonstrated remarkable achievements, such networks require large amounts of training data to achieve their desired performances. The heavy reliance on precise and abundant data makes deep learning algorithms vulnerable to overfitting. Moreover, some domains such as medicine or law do not have the luxury of providing large datasets because of the annotation costs or the scarcity of data. In this talk, we investigate general and domain-specific techniques that can be used to address the challenges in limited-data domains. These techniques have demonstrated their efficacy in different tasks such as medical imagery, speech generation and remote sensing applications. |
