About this event

Join us for Pacific Devfest 2021! We will be turning the tech meetup format on its head by starting with a social hour and then following up with various tech talks including both Cloud and Android Study Jams. Don't miss this amazing event!

1st Track Announced: Cloud Study Jam!

Automate Interactions with Contact Center AI With Dan Goncharov

Come and code along and learn the fundamentals of Contact Center AI

You will learn about the features of Contact Center AI, including how to:

1. Design Conversational Flows for your Agent

Contact Center AI can increase customer satisfaction and operational efficiency by improving call deflection rates, and achieve shorter handling, while making overall operations faster and more effective.

2. Building Virtual Agent Fulfillment

Continue working on your Pigeon Travel chat agent and add context as well as setup fulfillment to lookup and store reservations entries in Firestore.

2nd Track Announced: Android Study Jam!

Build Your First Android App in Kotlin with Kevin Moore

What you'll learn:

  1. How to use Android Studio to build your app.
  2. How to run your app on a device or in the emulator.
  3. How to add interactive buttons.
  4. How to display a second screen when a button is pressed.

Please be informed that this track has some pre-requisites that you MUST complete before the study jam begins.

What you must know already

This codelab is written for programmers and assumes that you know either the Java or Kotlin programming language. If you are an experienced programmer and adept at reading code, you will likely be able to follow this codelab, even if you don't have much experience with Kotlin.

To work through this, you will need a computer that can run Android Studio 3.6 or higher (or already has Android Studio 3.6 or higher installed).

The installation is similar for all platforms. Any differences are noted below.

  • Navigate to the Android Studio download page and follow the instructions to download and install Android Studio.
  • Accept the default configurations for all steps, and ensure that all components are selected for installation.
  • After the install is complete, the setup wizard downloads and installs additional components, including the Android SDK. Be patient, because this process might take some time, depending on your internet speed.
  • When the installation completes, Android Studio starts, and you are ready to create your first project.

3rd Track Announced: Career Track

Session 1 (1:00 - 2:00): Keynote: Zoraida Martinez Duarte

Summary: Zoraida Martinez Duarte is currently a project manager at Bitwise Industries, but her career path hasn't been easy. Join this session for an inspiring take on the roller coaster of life, and you might learn something about yourself along the way.

Session 2 (2:15-3:15): Navigating Career Change (panel presentation)

Summary: Whether you are just getting into a new tech career or have already been here a while, we all have to navigate the changes. This session will feature a panel of speakers who have all been through some big career changes and are now working in different areas of the tech industry. We’ll get real as we talk about how to survive the career-change leap, strategies for learning new skills (while working a different job), how to talk about your transferable job skills, where to start looking for new opportunities, how to stay focused on your goals, and more! Don’t miss this fun and empowering session!

Session 3 (3:30-4:30): Helping Women Thrive in Tech (panel presentation)

Summary: Women were pioneers of early computing, but are still underrepresented in the tech industry today. Although the industry has come a long way, there is still a lot that we can all do to help women thrive in tech. Join this session to hear from a panel of inspiring women leaders in different segments of the industry, discuss the pervasive challenges, and learn what you can do to help create a more inclusive working environment for women and other underrepresented folks.
