Abstract: More than 790 million people in the world are suffering from mental health disorders, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The state-of-the-art technology that is developing today, including conversational AI, should serve not only business-driven purposes but also to help people with little to no access to professional therapy support, cope with mental issues like depression, anxiety, panic attacks – among others.

Replika is building a conversational chatbot whose goal is to become a best friend to people who use it, support conversation with them on any topic, and when it’s needed, to provide emotional support.

Artem Rodichev, Head of AI at Replika, will share in his talk how chatbots can simulate emotional connection with users using different modalities, including text, speech, and vision, and how to use the most advanced machine learning algorithms, including GPT-3, that they already use in production.

Artem was included on the Forbes list 30Under30 among other successful innovators. Before joining Replika as Head of AI, he worked with the leading tech companies (like Yandex and Abbyy) on NLP and comprehension problems.
