Google Earth Engine (GEE) combines a multi-petabyte catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets with planetary-scale analysis capabilities. Scientists, researchers, and developers use Earth Engine to detect changes, map trends, and quantify differences on the Earth's surface.
This session, which will consist of a presentation and accompanying exercises, will provide an introduction to GEE. It includes a review of the platform's capabilities and the wide range of environmental datasets available for processing in GEE. The practical exercises, using GEE's JavaScript-based Code Editor (https://code.earthengine.google.com/), will focus on visualization and basic analysis of sample Earth observation datasets (https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/).
In terms of course outcomes, participants should come away with a basic understanding of how to apply GEE in their respective geographic domains, for monitoring applications related to agriculture, climate, risk, and marine and terrestrial ecosystems. As an introduction, the session will set the stage for the later and more advanced webinars in this Google Developer Group-organized speaker series.
