After the IO comes the IO Extended ๐ Welcome to the 2024 Google IO Extended Event in Cape Town! ๐ฅณ๐
This year's Google I/O Extended will offer a truly interactive developer learning experience. It will provide members of our GDG community a platform to connect, learn, and collaborate on projects and gain a deeper understanding of technologies announced at the 2024 Google IO event, under the categories of Mobile, Web, AI, and Cloud.
Programme of events:
- 8am - 9am: Attendees check-in and tea.
- 9am - 9:15am: GDG Cape Town Welcome Note.
- 9:15am - 9:45am: Keynote Talk by Atieno Allela. Allela will start the event off with the keynote talk "What's new for Developers?", focusing on how Google is at the forefront of this revolution, leveraging their powerful AI model, Gemini, to introduce a new generation of developer tools.
- 9:45am - 10am: Break out into the different rooms for the concurrent sessions.
- 10am - 11am: Concurrent Sessions Part 1:
- A Practical Introduction to Developing for Android and iOS with Kotlin Multiplatform by Pamela Hill. In this workshop, Pamela will show you how a single codebase can be used to create applications that target multiple platforms. We will incrementally build a sample application from scratch, layering on a little bit of networking as we go.
- The Prompt Design Toolkit by Gabriel Cassim.
- 11am - 11:30am: Tea break. We will stand up, stretch our legs, sip some tea and get ready for the part two of the sessions.
- 11:35am - 12:35pm: Concurrent Sessions Part 2:
- Infrastructure as Code: The Developer's Secret Weapon by Hennie Francis. In this talk we'll delve into the world of IaC and explore how it empowers developers to supercharge their productivity, streamline workflows, and elevate their impact on the development process.
- AI for Industrial Optimisation using JAX and Google Cloud by Ruan de Kock and Callum Tillbury. Ruan and Callum will facilitate a practical session titled "AI for Industrial Optimisation using JAX and Google Cloud", on how InstaDeep leverages JAX and TPUs for training multi-agent systems both online in simulators and offline on existing datasets. Ruan and Callum's would walk through a Google Colab notebook where participants can train their first multi-agent system both from offline data and in an online simulator.
- 12:35pm - 12:50pm: Plenary Session: QnA, JetBrains IDE Subscriptions raffle draw, and Closing Remarks. We will congregate in the main auditorium to conclude the event. The attendees will have the opportunity to ask any or all of the speakers questions and have them answered. Then we will have two raffle draws to pick out 2 winners ๐๏ธof the donated one-year subscriptions to the suite of JetBrain IDEs. This will really be fun, we promise ya ๐
- 12:50pm - 2pm: Lunch, drinks, networking and bye byes. And then it will be lunch time: some lunch, some drinks and a lot of chit chat while we say good byes.
