An Evening of Jetpack Compose

Last year we had a first look at the alpha release of the Jetpack Compose toolkit. Since then Jetpack Compose has matured considerably and is picking up momentum in the developer sphere. Time for us to have another look. Our speakers this month are Nick Rout from Google and Luno developers Maia Grotepas and Charles Okot.

About this event

For our first meet in 2021 we are going to have a closer look at Jetpack Compose, the modern, declarative UI toolkit for Android:

6:00pm Welcome

6:10pm Getting started with Jetpack Compose

Nick Rout, Google

Jetpack Compose is Android's modern UI toolkit designed to help you quickly and easily build beautiful Material Design apps across all Android platforms, with native access to the platform APIs. In this talk, Nick Rout will demonstrate how you can get started and bring apps to life with dramatically less code, interactive tools, and intuitive Kotlin APIs.

6:35pm Converting an existing screen to use Jetpack Compose: Is it as good as the hype?

Maia Grotepass and Charles Okot, Luno

Following on Nick's talk, Maia and Charles from Luno start with an existing screen in the Luno app and take the conversion to Jetpack Compose for a spin. Was it easy? Did they use less code? Are there gotchas? Come and join us on 4 March at 6pm SAST to find out.
