Join GDG Cape Town and Google DeepMind for a first-of-its-kind AI Hackathon! This event will bring together developers, data scientists, and AI enthusiasts to collaborate, innovate, and build impactful solutions using cutting-edge Google AI technologies. The Hackathon will be a great opportunity to work alongside experienced mentors and fellow developers to expand your knowledge in AI. You’ll get to create a tangible prototype to showcase your talent and win amazing prizes while at it!
1. Registration.
All Hackathon participants are required to register through this platform.
Participants will be expected to work in groups of 3-5. If you already have a team, you can select a preferred name which you’ll get to submit during the registration process. You can still sign up as a solo developer and you’ll get a chance to select teammates on the buildup to the event
2. What to Build.
The theme for the Hackathon is “AI for Impact” and participants will be required to come up with challenges under the following broad categories:
AgTech
EdTech
HealthTech
Fintech
GovTech
Once you’ve your idea in place, the next step is to bring the solution to life by leveraging Google’s AI tools. We expect the ideation process to take no more than 45minutes so that you have ample time to develop your prototype.
3. Submissions.
A brief presentation covering the following areas:-
What problem were you working on? How did you solve the problem?
What did you achieve? An overview of the solution, including the technical implementation.
Any post-hackathon work?
At least one member of the team must be physically present in the Coding Hub within Innovators Hive to demo the Project to judges during the Judging Period. Presentations must include a summary of points 1-4 above. Projects with no demonstration will only be eligible to win Participation Prizes. In person demos should be no more than 2 minutes.
4. Judging Criteria
Wow factor (30%) WOW-Factor is a measure of innovation you've demonstrated in your project. Does your project have a sense of magic to it?
Impact (30%) Overall value of your project to your target domain. This could be a measure of environmental impact, business impact, health impact, etc. A great project here could stand on its own as a startup or revolutionize its domain.
Polish (30%) Polish is a measure of how ready for prime-time your project is. A great project in this area will be feature complete (or close) with a pitch that would make a director want to fund your project.
Presentation quality (10%) How well you organized your idea in a deck and how clear you introduced your idea in a 3 minute pitch. An excellent presentation would be having the audience clearly understand the overarching goal of this project, the proposal details how you are solving the problem and a clear picture how this can be applicable to the problem statement.
