Most software developers are now familiar with using LLM and image-generation APIs in their applications, but there is another, even more powerful way to use AI APIs - chaining! Chaining means that the outputs from one AI model get fed into another AI model to synthesise and collate information in new and very useful ways.

In this presentation, Derek Van Tonder, Chief Software Architect at 3 Dot Digital (a Brisbane based AI and automation software firm focused on the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industries) will demonstrate how chaining together multiple vision and text Gemini AI models can result in very useful capabilities that will make the lives of civil engineers far easier when they are creating complex reports based on detailed survey and map data. This talk will also focus on the performance improvements that Gemini Flash 2.0 offers for visual data inspection.

Derek has been engineering software since the late 90's, with a focus on 3D, mobile and AI software development and has worked for a variety of game studios, engineering firms and software consultancies. Derek has created 3D game engines, written mobile apps for the Google Play Store and is now the Chief Software Architect for 3 Dot Digital, a Brisbane software consultancy based in West End that specialises in collapsing time-consuming workflows by delivering automations powered by Google AI models.

As Director of Technology at Wells Fargo, she spearheaded digital transformation across data privacy, compliance, and customer onboarding, delivering AI-powered solutions for speed, stability, and security. Previously, she held senior roles at JPMorgan Chase and financial consulting firms. Passionate about emerging tech, Rashmi shares best practices with the community. Outside work, she enjoys music, the outdoors, and the beach.
