As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, Jokkolabs Banjul we will be hosting “Be Bold for Change” on Thursday, March 7th 2019 starting at 10:00am, in collaboration with GDG Banjul and SHOAW Gambia, an initiative that seeks to address the increasing harassment and online abuse of women and girls in The Gambia. The event shall take place in Jokkolabs Banjul at the YMCAs Computer Training Centre and Digital Studio, opposite MDI.

This event will focus on the online and in person harassment of girls in the community. We have invited local community organizations that focus on empowering women and girls to speak about what they do, how girls can get involved, and the resources available to them. Following the showcase, we will have a group discussion around questions that the girls may have around harassment in the community. Finally, we will have a breakout session with all the students to help create lists of what they can do to keep themselves safe both online and in person, each group will share their list in a short presentation with the larger group.
