About this event

UGA New Media Institute Capstone students Molly Shapiro, Jackie Jefferson, Jess L'Hommedieu, Jordan McGuire, and Heather McAbee worked together to create Code for Athens, a new brigade for Code for America. Code for America is a non-profit organization that helps connect citizens to their local government and break down barriers in America’s systems, such as the criminal legal system, by using the practices of the digital age to improve how the government serves the public.

As part of the national organization, Code for Athens is a people-centered non-profit dedicated to solving community-based problems through technological innovations. The project consists of an easy-to-use website for those looking to join the volunteer ranks, a social media presence across multiple platforms to help amplify their message, and a virtual event for individuals looking to get involved.
