About this event

This event is co-hosted with the Ann Arbor Machine Learning group (https://www.meetup.com/Machine-Learning-Data-Science-and-Industry/). Please only RSVP at this group (GDG Ann Arbor) so that we can fully track participants accurately for food counts!

A Study Jam is a collective learning program combining practical developer experience with Google Cloud expertise. Like-minded developers come together to hone their skills and further their cloud knowledge through interactive classrooms and hands-on labs.

This particular study jam will introduce the concepts of machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP), as well as how to use Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to perform some general tasks within NLP.

We'll start the day off with a light continental style breakfast. Then we will dive into our hands-on experience with Language Processing with GCP. Our organizers include Keith Bourne of Gradient Valley, Pooja Ramesh, a data science graduate student at Wayne State University, and Chisulo Mukabe and Tangeni Shikomba, both graduate students from Eastern Michigan University. They will lead us through the approximately 5 hours of content Google is providing in these areas:
* Could ML Engine: Qwik Start
* Google Cloud Speech API: Qwik Start
* Cloud Natural Language API: Qwik Start
* Entity and Sentiment Analysis with Natural Language API
* Speech to Text Transcription with the Cloud Speech API
* Actionable AI insights using Translation and Natural Language

Around noon, we will take a break and serve lunch, and we will wrap up the training before 3pm. After the Study Jam, you’ll receive 30-days free access to the entire Qwiklabs catalogue, so you can keep developing your skills at home. Complete all of the labs in the session’s quest, and you’ll earn an additional free month of access to Qwiklabs as well as a badge for your online profile.

Bring a laptop and charger (PC, Mac or Chromebook)! The labs will run on all of the latest versions of popular browsers. For the best experience, make sure your laptop has Firefox or Chrome installed. Don’t forget your charger.

Please go to www.GDGAnnArbor.org and join the slack prior to the event as we will us a special slack channel for day of communications.
