Join us for a special evening of system design and community!

We’ll kick things off with a System Design Workshop featuring Jatinder Bhola, followed by a "Social Battery" networking event. This is a great chance to sharpen your system design skills, learn from professionals, and connect with both students and industry leaders, all in one night!

Agenda

6:30 – 8:00 PM | System Design Workshop: Why Your AI App Breaks at Scale (And How to Fix It)

Ship Production-Ready AI Apps: Firebase + Cloud Run + Gemini

Your college project works great on localhost. But what happens when 1,000 users hit it at once? When the AI API goes down? When free tier runs out?

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll bridge the gap between student projects and production systems. You’ll build a real AI-powered document analyzer using Google Cloud’s latest tech stack—and learn the architectural patterns that keep apps running at 3am when you’re asleep.

What You’ll Build:

🤖 AI document processor using Gemini API
⚡ Serverless architecture with Cloud Run
📬 Queue-based reliability with Cloud Tasks
🔐 Production-grade security with Firebase
📊 Real monitoring and error handling

What You’ll Learn:

- When to use Firebase vs Cloud Run (and why both!)
- Queue-based architecture for bulletproof reliability
- AI integration patterns that don’t break the bank
- Error handling that saves you at 3am
- Cost optimization for real-world scale

What You’ll Take Home:

- Complete production-ready boilerplate
- Architecture templates and best practices
- Cost calculator and optimization guide
- Portfolio project that impresses employers

Perfect for: Students & early-career developers ( 2-4 years ) who want to build systems that actually work in production.

Prerequisites: Basic JavaScript / Python knowledge, GCP account (free tier works!)

8:00 – 10:00 PM | Social Battery Mixer

Curious about tech or just want to relax after midterms? Why not both?

Kick off Reading Week by recharging your Social Battery! Connect with Sheridan's tech clubs, meet industry professionals, network with peers or just relax with your friends after an intense week!

SCSC, GDG and Pixel Perfect will be providing free food, snacks, and beverages. 🍕🥤

Stay for both sessions or drop in for the one that excites you most — it’s all happening in the same place!

PS: Non-Sheridan students are welcome to join!
