National Agentic AI Hackathon - Launch Event

What is Agentic AI and AI Agent?

Summary: The discussion kicked off by Qadir Hussain introduces Agentic AI and AI Agents, focusing on their autonomous decision-making and interaction capabilities. Physics 035 explains the difference between task-specific AI Agents and more versatile Agentic AI through examples of booking a flight. AI Agents perform direct tasks, while Agentic AI can plan, remember preferences, and act like a personal assistant. Qadir Hussain appreciates the explanation, highlighting the informative exchange.
AI Summary

As we kick off the National Agentic AI Hackathon, let's explore the concepts behind Agentic AI and AI Agents. Agentic AI refers to systems that can perform actions autonomously, make decisions, and interact with other agents or humans to achieve specific goals. AI Agents are the individual units that think, learn, and collaborate to solve problems and optimize outcomes.

In what ways do you think Agentic AI could transform industries in Pakistan? Do you have experiences or ideas around developing AI agents that you'd like to share? Let's discuss how these technologies can be harnessed to address local challenges and drive innovation in our community.

AI Agent

This is a task-specific system.

You give input, and it directly executes that task.

It does not use much reasoning, planning, or memory.

Example:
You give input → "Book me a flight from Lahore to Karachi."

AI agent → will search flights, make a list, and after confirming with you, it will book it.

It is an expert in one task (flight booking).

Agentic AI

This is a smarter and flexible system.

It does not only execute the task, but also thinks, makes a plan, decides steps, and adapts the work.

It has memory (remembers your preferences or history).

It has autonomy (can do multi-step tasks by itself).

Example:
You give input → "I have to go from Lahore to Karachi next week."

Agentic AI:

  • It will check your calendar.

  • It will remember your past preferences (like you prefer morning flights).

  • It will compare flights + hotels.

  • It will suggest options to you.

  • If you want, it will even book by itself.

  • It will send you reminders and check-in alerts.

That means it does not only behave like a tool, but like a personal assistant.

Good example. Thank you for sharing
