About this event

Series Overview

The Pre-DevFest Virtual Series serves as the technical runway to DevFest Umuahia 2026 (holding November 21, 2026, at Abia Mall). Every Friday evening and Saturday afternoon in October, our community gathers online to explore advanced engineering concepts, cloud architectures, AI workflows, and practical software design.

Session Description:

Production software rarely runs on perfect networks. Users switch between Wi‑Fi and cellular, work in the field, or rely on desktop apps that must stay usable when APIs are slow or unavailable. The challenge is the same across web, mobile, and desktop: build clients that survive bad connectivity, stay responsive under load, and still feel current when real-time data arrives.

In this talk, I’ll cover cross-platform patterns I’ve applied while shipping fullstack applications on web (Next.js), mobile (Flutter), and desktop (Electron + Next.js). On the data layer, I’ll walk through offline-first loading with TanStack Query, persisted client caches, and strategies for reconciling local state when connectivity returns. On the real-time layer, I’ll cover WebSockets and MQTT for live updates without fighting your offline model. On mobile, I’ll share practical lessons from delivering production Flutter features, improving app performance through architectural refactors, and handling native integrations and third-party APIs when packages lag behind platform changes. On desktop, I’ll explain how to structure Electron apps so privileged capabilities stay in the main process while the UI remains a modern React renderer with a typed preload bridge.

Attendees will leave with a unified mental model for client architecture: not three separate stacks, but shared principles for reliability, performance, and maintainability as products and teams scale.
