Our guest speaker, Yulan Lin, will be giving at talk about how she became an engineer at Google.
Growing up, Yulan’s career aspirations ranged from translational medicine to theoretical chemistry and choral composition. While pursuing her chemistry degree, a friend introduced her to Linux and SQL, and she fell in love with code and computers. Her work experience has ranged from bioinformatics to data science, and she’s currently a Software Engineer @ Google. In this talk, Yulan will talk about her career path, what it's like to switch between fields, some reflections on being a lifelong learner.
Yulan is a Software Engineer working on Google Chrome. She first learned to code through SQL GROUP BY statements and RNA-sequencing, and has since traded beakers and pipets for ridiculously complex dotfiles and data visualization. In the past, she’s worked in developer relations, research, event management, and government data science. When not computerating, she can be found reading, hosting dinner parties, and making music.
