Welcome to Week 00—the official kickoff and onboarding runway for our brand-new GDG Monthly Coding Jam series, powered by Google AI Studio!
To celebrate Juneteenth, we are launching with a specialized, community-first theme, leveraging technology as a tool for local impact. We're focusing our energy on Civic Hacking across five critical tracks:
Economic Empowerment
Preserving History
Community Health
Civic Engagement
Environmental Justice.
What is a Build Jam?
Our new Build Jam format is fast, high-octane, and hyper-focused. The goal? Open the starter kit, dive into the code, and ship a real AI prototype before time runs out. Bring your laptop, your power brick, and your latest ideas.. This session is specifically designed to get fully dialed into the brand-new Antigravity platform from the Google AI studio team.
The Pre-Flight Checklist
Half the Code Jam time is currently lost to environment setup—this checklist gives that time back so we can focus on building. Drop-ins without the pre-reqs are still completely welcome!
Install Antigravity: Download the desktop app from antigravity.google. The Jam runs directly on Antigravity—without it, you won't be able to follow the codelab.
Install uv (The lightning-fast package manager): macOS/Linux: Run curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh in your terminal.
Windows: Head to astral.sh/uv for standalone installation steps.
GitHub Account + Git Installed: Each starter kit is hosted as a GitHub repo. You'll need to clone it to your local machine during setup.
Google Account: Used to generate your personal Gemini API key at ai.google.dev. The free tier is more than enough for the entire workshop.
Parking Made Simple:
City Tower Parking Garage: $10 max for the day (Right next door).
St. Mary's Parking Garage: $10 max for the day (One block away).
Street Level: Free city street parking after 6:00 PM.
Who is this event for?
Everyone! Whether you're here to ship code or just to see what others are working on, you belong here. Because the Coding Jam format uses structured starter kits and clean UI wrappers, there is a place for you whether you want to focus on prompt engineering, tweaking the UI layout, or orchestrating deterministic AI workflows. Come by and say hello! RSVP
