About this event

Once again we are very lucky to have Google send us two of their subject matter experts, this time on DataStudio. Both Yulan and Morgan will be joining us for an evening focusing on Google Data Visualisation tool Data Studio.

* Yulan is a Developer Advocate for Google’s Data Studio.
* Morgan is a software engineer at Google, working on enabling community visualizations within Data Studio.

NOTE: Laptops with network connectivity are required for participation

Agenda
6:30 pm: Registration and refreshments
7:00 pm: Data Visualization in Data Studio: Developer Edition
7:45 pm: Break
8:00 pm: Walkthrough of Data Studio Community Visualizations and Community Connectors
9:00 pm: Workshop close

Objectives
Title: Data Visualization in Data Studio: Developer Edition

Abstract:
Data Studio is Google’s serverless business intelligence and data visualization platform. As an easy and free-to-use reporting solution, Data Studio helps businesses and individuals to understand their data, derive key insights, effectively communicate measurements, and make
better informed decisions.

In this talk, I’ll discuss about Data Studio’s developer features: community visualizations and community connectors. Community visualizations allow you to build custom JavaScript visualizations that integrate into your Data Studio dashboards, and community connectors allow you to connect basically any internet connected data source to your dashboard. In the process, you’ll learn about Data Studio, Google Apps Script, and writing data visualizations with JavaScript.

Interactive workshop

Title: Walkthrough of Data Studio Community Visualizations and Community Connectors

Format: Self-paced codelab. I’d give a quick overview of the tools/technologies/concepts, and then be available to answer questions as participants work through the codelabs on their own.

Description: Data Studio is Google’s serverless business intelligence and data visualization platform. Community connectors allow you to connect data from different APIs to Data Studio Dashboards, and community visualizations provide a way to write custom data visualizations for Data Studio. This workshop will be an opportunity to work through the self-paced codelabs for community visualizations and community connectors with a Data Studio Developer Advocate nearby to answer questions and provide additional context.

*The trainers*

Yulan is a Developer Advocate for Google’s Data Studio. She first fell in love with code because of SQL GROUP BY statements and RNA-sequencing, and her experience spans bioinformatics, nonprofits, and NLP. When not computerating, she can be found studying for her Masters’ in Computer Science, hosting dinner parties, and playing the piano.

Morgan is a software engineer at Google, working on enabling community visualizations within Data Studio.
He initially studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Merced, but ended up with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
Prior to Google, Morgan worked for BloomSky, a weather startup, where he developed a weather map visualizing data from a crowdsourced network of personal weather stations.
Outside of work, Morgan enjoys latte art, woodworking, and fitness.
