Got an old computer at home that’s too slow to use? Bring it to Linux Install Fest and give it a fresh start! We’ll help you install a Linux distribution, explore open-source tools, and discover how to reuse technology in sustainable and creative ways.

Organized by Project IVI, under GDG Râmnicu Vâlcea, in partnership with Asociația “Copii fără Copilărie” (“Children without a Childhood”), ROSEdu, and the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science, University Politehnica of Bucharest. During the event, our team will guide you through installing a Linux distribution on your old device - transforming it into a fast, secure, and modern computer.

At 12:00, Cătălin Vasile will host a practical workshop on how to use Linux efficiently - ideal for anyone who wants to gain confidence switching from Windows or macOS.

This year’s session also introduces Google Cloud Platform (GCP), showing how you can run and manage Linux servers directly in the cloud. Participants will learn how to start a virtual machine, connect via SSH, and explore how Google’s sustainable infrastructure supports open-source learning.

As part of the Reboot Vâlcea campaign with Asociația “Copii fără Copilărie”, collected computers will be refurbished during the event and donated to children attending Project IVI courses, promoting access to digital education across Vâlcea. Any remaining computers will find a new home through our partners at Asociația „Copii fără Copilărie”.

This event is also a great opportunity for students in Project IVI’s IT Infrastructure track, where the first semester introduces operating systems through Ubuntu - a perfect match for hands-on learning in a supportive community.
