About this event

Join Google Developer Groups On Campus - University of Manchester for an intensive, hands-on workshop designed to bridge the gap between "Hello World" and production-ready cloud infrastructure.

Who should attend? This workshop is designed to be inclusive and accessible. Whether you are a complete beginner to the cloud or a novice programmer, you are welcome here. We encourage students from all disciplines to join - this session is not just for Computer Science students, but also those studying Engineering, Maths, Physics, and other technical degrees.

Led by Adrian Mircea Nenu - an AI researcher and former Google engineer who worked on the planet-scale Monarch database - this session will demystify the core components of Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Whether you are a student, a researcher, or a budding developer, you will gain the foundational skills needed to deploy and manage applications in the cloud.

In this hands-on session, you will learn to:

  • Initialise your Environment: Create and manage GCP projects using the Cloud Shell online editor.

  • Master Compute Engine: Launch, configure, and secure Virtual Machines (VMs).

  • Network & Security: Deep dive into SSH access, firewall rules, and security groups to keep your infrastructure safe.

  • Architect for Scale: Configure Load Balancers and Autoscaling to ensure your application can handle real-world traffic.

  • Deploy: Serve a live HTML website directly from your configured cloud instance.

RSVP & Attendance: You must RSVP to this event on the GDG community page in order to attend. This is essential for us to confirm your attendance for certification and to track your arrival at the workshop. Please contact us if you experience any issues with the RSVP process.

Certification: Participants who attend both this session and the second workshop in the series will be awarded a Certificate of Completion signed by Adrian Nenu and GDG Manchester - a fantastic addition to your LinkedIn profile and CV.

Note: Participants will receive Google Cloud credits to use during the workshop, so you can follow along without worrying about costs.

🍕 And yes - pizza will be provided, so come hungry and ready to build!
