About this event

Hosted right after Devfest Mississauga at the HMC Campus, Sheridan Datathon 2025 is a 24 hour hackathon focused on AI/ML, Data Science, and Cloud Computing; where post-secondary students from across the GTA, in teams of 5, will build impactful data-driven projects. Participants will gain access to modern and relevant workshops, resources, and networking opportunities.

This event is a vital platform for fostering the next generation of tech talent, equipping them with hands-on experience, collaboration skills, and the ability to tackle real-world challenges in our rapidly evolving data-driven world.

Note: This event is open to current post-secondary students only! Please bring a valid Student ID and Government Issued ID, you will not be granted entry without them.

Please also note that check-ins will begin at 3 PM on Saturday and entrance will be limited to the first 175 hackers who check-in at the venue, so make sure you arrive early!

Walk-ins are permitted as long as you are a current student at a post secondary institute, above 18 years of age, and we haven't reached 175 check-ins yet.

Workshops:

How to Build a Full Stack App: GitHub + Flask + Next.js + BigQuery

Join us for a hands-on workshop where we walk through building a full-stack project powered by Google Cloud! Learn how to connect a Flask backend to a Next.js frontend, query real BigQuery data, and deploy a fully working application step by step. Perfect for beginners, students, and anyone curious about full-stack development with AI-ready tools!

Turning Data Into Insights - By Air Canada Analyst Kolitha W.

An interactive workshop exploring the world of data analytics through Kolitha's personal career journey. Learn what Analysts do, the skills you need to succeed, and how to start building your own path – with hands-on activities along the way.

Hands-On with Gemini: AI-Powered Data Analysis

Explore how Google’s Gemini model transforms data analytics and machine learning. In this workshop, you’ll work directly inside the Google Cloud Console to analyze real datasets, generate insights, and build AI-assisted workflows using BigQuery + Gemini, with a hands-on dive into Vertex AI. This session is practical, beginner-friendly, and perfect for anyone who wants to see how generative AI boosts real-world data science.

How to Ace Your Technical Interview - by Senior Dayforce Manager Kunwar Singh

Join us for a super interactive, hands-on workshop that’ll get you prepped and confident for technical interviews in software engineering, computer science, and beyond!

We’ll break down what to expect in a real tech interview — from how to prep and what strategies to use, to key tips that’ll help you stand out. You’ll even get to walk through a few example coding challenges to test your skills in real time.
Whether you’re just starting out or already deep in the job search grind, this session is your chance to level up your interview game, learn from the pros, and connect with a top employer on campus. Don’t miss it!

We’ll also be joined by Dayforce’s Early Talent recruiters, who are coming to support students, answer questions, and offer real insights into landing co-op, intern, and new-grad roles.

This is a huge opportunity to understand what recruiters look for, how early-talent hiring works, and what you can do to stand out in your applications.

L1 → L5: How to Actually Build Agentic Products (Not Just Chatbots) - by Akash Shetty

Most "AI agents" today are just chatbots with extra steps. Real agents watch, reason, and act—autonomously navigating your product and the messy real world.

This talk introduces a practical L1 to L5 autonomy framework through two production system. We'll dissect what each autonomy level actually looks like from L1 reactive assistants to L5 fully autonomous agents and walk through the design decisions, orchestration patterns (LangGraph-style workflows), and infrastructure (vector/RAG, research tools, LLM arbitration) that make each level work.
