In today’s fast-paced technological world, engineers are not defined solely by what they learn in classrooms — they are defined by how effectively they showcase their learning, collaborate with others, and continuously grow in the digital ecosystem. The boundaries between learning, networking, and building have blurred, giving rise to a new breed of professionals who understand that technical skill and personal branding go hand in hand.
To help aspiring engineers begin this transformative journey, Google Developer Group (GDG) presents an Expert Talk Session titled “Beyond the Classroom: Shaping Your Tech Career with GitHub, LinkedIn & More”, conducted by our esteemed GDG Organizer, Sanjeevani Rajput.
This interactive session is specifically designed for diploma students who are taking their first steps into the world of technology and innovation. The event aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world professional readiness — equipping students with the essential digital tools that every modern engineer must master.
The session focuses on three crucial pillars of a successful engineering career:
Git and GitHub – understanding version control, collaboration, and open-source contributions.
LinkedIn – building a digital professional presence that reflects growth, skills, and achievements.
Productivity and Networking Applications – exploring the ecosystem of tools that enhance learning, communication, and career visibility.
In today’s digital landscape, knowing how to code is not enough; one must know how to showcase code, shareprogress, and connect with like-minded professionals. This session dives deep into these aspects, helping students recognize that tools like GitHub and LinkedIn are not just platforms — they are stepping stones toward a thriving career in technology.
Sanjeevani Rajput, Organizer of GDG, is a passionate advocate for community-driven learning and digital empowerment. With years of experience in guiding students through emerging technologies and career development, she brings a unique blend of technical expertise and mentorship.
Her sessions are known for their hands-on clarity, motivational energy, and ability to connect real-world tools to students’ personal growth. In this expert talk, she will decode the importance of maintaining a professional digital identity, leveraging platforms for visibility, and using tools effectively to collaborate and innovate.
By the end of this one-hour session, students will:
Gain a clear understanding of Git and GitHub — from repositories and commits to collaboration and project contribution.
Learn how to create a LinkedIn profile that highlights their technical and professional journey effectively.
Discover practical strategies to use online tools for teamwork, project management, and skill building.
Understand how open-source contribution enhances credibility and helps connect with industry experts.
Receive guidance on how to bridge the academic–professional gap early in their engineering journey.
The session will not only introduce these tools but also contextualize them in the life of a diploma student — showing how each action taken today can influence tomorrow’s opportunities.
Engineering education is evolving rapidly. The classroom remains a foundation, but industry readiness now depends heavily on how well students engage with the broader ecosystem. Platforms like GitHub enable collaboration, learning, and portfolio building; LinkedIn provides a digital footprint that opens doors to mentorship and opportunities; and numerous other applications — from documentation tools to productivity suites — help streamline the journey from learning to doing.
This session aims to demystify these platforms, especially for students who may feel these tools are “beyond their level.” By breaking down the fundamentals and showing how small, consistent steps can build professional confidence, the session encourages students to begin shaping their identity in the tech world right now.
The ultimate goal is to help diploma students see themselves as creators, contributors, and professionals-in-the-making — not just learners completing coursework.

The session is expected to inspire participants to become active members of the global developer community. By learning to use GitHub, students can start contributing to projects, collaborating with peers, and building a portfolio that speaks for their technical ability. Through LinkedIn, they can present their journey to the world, connect with mentors, and stay updated on emerging trends.
Beyond technical know-how, this expert talk focuses on mindset transformation — encouraging students to move from passive learning to active participation. It empowers them to take ownership of their digital identity and growth trajectory.
Such awareness, when developed early during the diploma phase, sets a foundation for smoother transitions into higher studies, internships, and full-time roles. The value of professional networking and skill showcasing cannot be overstated — and this event ensures every participant walks away with both clarity and motivation to begin.
