This session focuses on building foundational defensive skills using intrusion detection and monitoring tools. Participants will learn how signature-based detection works using Snort or Suricata, and how logs are collected, ingested, and analyzed within a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system. Through a practical demonstration, attendees will deploy a simple detection signature and observe how alerts are generated and correlated inside a lightweight SIEM such as Wazuh or Security Onion. The session highlights how defenders turn raw logs into actionable security insights.
