About this event

The Cyber Bash workshop was conducted as a beginner-friendly, fast-paced introduction to cybersecurity fundamentals. The session aimed to build awareness, provide practical insights, and encourage students to adopt safe digital practices.

The workshop began with an overview of computer basics and how data travels across the internet, helping participants understand the foundation of digital communication. This was followed by cyber hygiene practices, where students learned the importance of strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and safe browsing habits.

Core cybersecurity concepts such as the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) and the relationship between threats, vulnerabilities, and exploits were introduced to build a security mindset.

The session then explored social engineering attacks, highlighting how attackers manipulate human behavior through phishing, scams, and deceptive communication. This was complemented by a discussion on Wi-Fi security risks, emphasizing the dangers of public networks and the concept of traffic interception.

Participants were introduced to ethical hacking principles, including the importance of legal boundaries and the basic phases of security testing. Practical exposure was provided through demonstrations of web and network scanning using tools like Nmap, where students observed how open ports and services can reveal potential vulnerabilities.

The workshop also covered malware awareness and scanning, demonstrating how tools like VirusTotal can be used to analyze suspicious files.

The session concluded with guidance on learning pathways and cybersecurity resources, encouraging students to continue practicing through platforms such as TryHackMe and Hack The Box.

Overall, the workshop successfully provided participants with a foundational understanding of cybersecurity, combining conceptual knowledge with practical demonstrations and interactive activities.
