About this event

Hulma: Shaping Data into Solutions is an interactive learning event designed to immerse participants in the transformative power of Data Science, moving beyond mere numbers to generate meaningful impact. Through a phased experience that combines skill-building workshops, expert insights, and a Datathon competition, the event highlights how raw information can be refined, analyzed, and visualized to address complex real-world problems.

The event is structured into three phases. Phase 1 focuses on registration and participant onboarding, where teams sign up, receive event guidelines, and are introduced to the official communication channels. Phase 2 serves as the proposal submission and screening stage, where registered teams submit a concept deck outlining the problem they aim to solve, their proposed solution, intended tech stack, and the novelty of their idea. These submissions are evaluated to determine the Top 10 teams who will advance to the final round.

During the event week (Phase 3), participants take part in the core learning and competition activities. On Day 1, the workshop “Foundations of Data Analysis” introduces participants to the essentials of data hygiene and manipulation using industry-standard tools in the Google Colab environment. The second workshop, “Data Visualization for Storytelling,” explores the communicative side of analytics by teaching participants how to present insights through clear and compelling visuals. Bridging theory and practice, the industry talk “A Day in the Life of a Data Scientist” offers students a glimpse into real career paths, workplace challenges, and practical applications of data science.

On Day 2, the Datathon culminates in the Top 10 Final Pitching, where finalist teams present and demonstrate their proposed solutions before a panel of judges. Through live presentations, prototype demonstrations, and a question-and-answer segment, teams are evaluated on the innovation, feasibility, impact, and technical approach of their projects. The event concludes with the awarding ceremony, recognizing outstanding teams for their data-driven solutions.
