Core Theme: Generative AI & Advanced Prompt Engineering

MayaVyuh, meaning “Illusion Labyrinth,” was introduced by GDG ITER as a high-energy technical and creative challenge focused entirely on the rapidly growing world of Generative AI.

The event was designed to test participants’ creativity, analytical thinking, and prompt engineering skills by challenging them to recreate highly detailed target images using only text-based prompts and AI generation tools.

Event Concept

Inspired by the global rise of Artificial Intelligence and generative models, MayaVyuh explored how effectively participants could communicate visual ideas to AI systems through precise and structured prompting.

The challenge pushed participants to:

  • Understand prompt architecture

  • Experiment with iterative AI generation

  • Refine descriptive precision

  • Collaborate under time constraints

Event Structure

Team Format

  • Each team consisted of 2 members

  • Teams participated in a relay-style challenge

  • Both members worked sequentially on the same generation pipeline

The relay format ensured that communication, adaptability, and collaborative prompt engineering became core parts of the competition.

Platforms Used

Participants worked using advanced AI generation platforms, primarily:

  • Gemini

  • Nanobanana Workspaces

These tools were used to generate, iterate, and refine AI-created visual outputs.

Challenge Workflow

The Target Image

Every team received:

  • A highly detailed reference image

  • A specific visual target to replicate

The challenge was to recreate the image as accurately as possible using only:

  • Text prompts

  • Prompt modifiers

  • Iterative refinement techniques

No direct image editing or manual design tools were allowed.

Relay-Based Gameplay

Teammate 1 — The Anchor

The first teammate acted as the primary prompter and was responsible for:

  • Building the initial prompt structure

  • Defining scene logic and visual composition

  • Generating the closest possible baseline image within the given timeframe

This stage focused on establishing a strong prompt foundation for the team.

Teammate 2 — The Finisher

Midway through the challenge, the second teammate took over the workstation.

Their role was to:

  • Analyze the current generated output

  • Fine-tune the existing prompt architecture

  • Improve descriptive accuracy and visual detailing

  • Iterate toward the final submission image

This stage tested adaptability, prompt refinement skills, and attention to detail.

Evaluation Criteria

Teams were judged based on:

  • Similarity to the reference image

  • Prompt creativity and optimization

  • Iterative improvement quality

  • Overall visual accuracy and detailing

Impact

MayaVyuh successfully introduced participants to:
