About this event

Curious about Google Summer of Code 2026? Join us at the Google Developers Group for a dedicated info session where we break down everything you need to know to apply and get accepted.

GSoC is a global, online program that connects beginner developers and students with over 185 open source organizations for a 12+ week mentored coding project. Contributors receive a stipend ranging from $750 to $3,000 USD, real world experience, and a direct path into the open source community.

In this session we will cover:

  • What GSoC is and who it is for

  • The 2026 program timeline and critical deadlines

  • How to find and engage with the right organization

  • What makes a strong proposal

  • Stipend structure and project size options

  • Tips from past contributors and best practices for success

Whether you have never touched open source or have been lurking on GitHub for a while, this session is designed to give you the clarity and confidence to submit a competitive application.

Important: The contributor application window opens March 16 and closes March 31, 2026 at 18:00 UTC – so this session comes at the perfect time to take action.
