Modern Android development abstracts away much of the underlying system. Between Jetpack Compose, high-level architecture components, and modern libraries, it's easy to ship production apps without ever touching the primitives that make the operating system run.

Join Renaud as he walks through building a custom home-screen launcher from scratch, revisiting core platform fundamentals:

• Discovering launchable activities via PackageManager, LauncherApps, and intent filters.

• Managing real-time package updates with BroadcastReceivers.
